Aesthetic Gallery was founded in 2008. The Gallery highlights fiber art and displays multi media paintings, sculptures and photography. It also features iconic photography by local artists reinterpreted into vivid, intricately detailed textiles created by Australian artisans. All can be viewed at leisure within the Gallery’s warm and intimate setting. |

Brenda Macauley, founder of Aesthetic Gallery, was born, raised, and educated in Liverpool, England. She discovered her talent for textiles, and her penchant for doing business, while still a child by creating fully clothed dolls to sell to the neighborhood children.
Brenda came to the U.S. in the 1960s. She continued to dabble with textiles and took college level art classes. She created some outstanding works and became proficient enough to teach fiber art to adults and children.
In the 2000s, Brenda joined the Peace Corps, went to Lesotho in Southern Africa, and served as Marketing Advisor to cooperatives of African women fiber artists in rural villages. There she helped them to produce quality control textile art and then accompanied them to larger towns in South Africa to sell their art pieces to tourists. Profits from the sales not only raised the women’s confidence and self-esteem, it enabled them to pay their children’s school fees and buy seeds to grow abundant crops.
In 2003, Brenda returned to the U.S. intending to open an art gallery within a small artist community. After much travel, she chose Asheville, North Carolina because of its relaxed lifestyle, climate, beautiful mountains, art culture, friendly people and affordability.
With the opening of Aesthetic Gallery, Brenda helps local art students, and experienced artists, by promoting their works. Her future plans are to teach fiber art to youth at the City's Parks and Recreation department.
